Frenzy
Our emotions can help set the stage for approaching God from a proper position. A worship song before prayer can be a way to put on an attitude of thanksgiving and humility. We can stir up feelings of love for Jesus and others this way.
But, what we don't have to do -- and shouldn't think we need to do -- is to whip ourselves into an emotional frenzy so that God can hear us. He hears us even when we feel empty inside. And, we don't have to invoke feelings in order for him to be willing to answer us. He already is willing. If he requires anything from us, it starts with faith, and then maybe honesty and obedience.
Emotions follows faith. Worship helps us remember our faith and His faithfulness towards us. Remembrance and faith is the posture we need. Emotion may follow, but faith is at the center.
